Mike DePrimo Obituary

HANOVER Mike DePrimo, 101, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the home of his son in Loudon, Tenn. He was the husband of Margaret L. (Luckenbaugh) DePrimo, who died February 14, 1981. Born December 10, 1911 in Sicily, Italy, he came to the U.S. with his family when he was 15 months old. Mike was a son of the late Angelo and Angeline De Primo. As a teenager, Mr. DePrimo sold newspapers in Pittsburgh and was employed for J.C. Eisenhart Wall Paper Co. for 17 years prior to working at the Hanover Post Office, for 18 years retiring in 1981. Mr. DePrimo was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII in Company D, 112th infantry and was wounded in France in 1944. Mike was a member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, Hanover. Other memberships include the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, Hanover and the Mason and Dixon Memorial, VFW Post #6954, Littlestown, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Post #111, the Hanover YMCA where he was a member of the 1,000 Mile Walkers/Runners Club, and was the first person to break the 1000 mile barrier. Mike really enjoyed playing his Hawaiian Guitar. He made his own wine and loved tending to his garden. He was an avid Penn State football fan and Baltimore Orioles baseball fan. Mr. DePrimo is survived by two children, David M. DePrimo and his wife Lillian of Loudon, Tenn. and Linda M. Sponseller and her husband Douglas of Hanover; four granddaughters, Amanda Sponseller, Hanover, and Angela, Gina and Rachel DePrimo all of Loudon, Tenn. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Ann DePrimo; and a brother, Pete DePrimo. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. DePrimo will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, 1398 Moulstown Road N., Hanover, with Rev. David L. DeLong officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hanover, where full military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. For those desiring, contributions in Mr. DePrimo's memory may be made to Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, 1398 Moulstown Road North, Hanover, PA 17331.
