Alice Selda Parks

NEW FREEDOM Alice Selda (Dolly) Parks, 93, formerly of Sykesville, Md., died Monday, March 25, 2013 at Misericorida Nursing and Rehab in York. She was the wife of the late James W. Parks, Jr. Alice lived on Emerald Dr., Sykesville, Md., for 49 years. Born October 3, 1919, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Blanche Alice Arnold Abel. She was a graduate of Western High School. She had been employed as a hairdresser and then as a telephone operator. She then became a mother and caretaker and was employed by Random House in the 1970's. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Ann and Rick Cook of Hanover, Alice R. Parks-Culp and David Culp of New Freedom; daughter-in-law Susan Lynn Parks of Charlevoix, MI.; and grandchildren, Bethany Lynne Cook of Raleigh, N.C., Christopher James Parks of Detroit, MI, and Sarah Lynn Parks of Charlevoix, MI. She was predeceased by her son, John James Parks. Friends may call at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills.
