Arthur Lentz "Art" Kennell

FAIRFIELD Arthur Lentz "Art" Kennell, 86, died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village. Born in Gettysburg on March 20, 1927, Art was the son of the late John Robert and Frances (Lentz) Kennell. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Laird Kennell. Art was a graduate of Gettysburg High School and veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, Gettysburg Civic Chorus, South Mountain Audubon Society and Albert J. Lentz American Legion Post #202 in Gettysburg. Art served as Superintendent of Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg from 1976 until his retirement in 1990. He previously served as the Golf Course Superintendent at the former Gettysburg Country Club for many years. In addition to his wife Eleanor, Art is survived by his five children, Douglas Kennell, Elyse Miller and Brian Kennell, all of Gettysburg, Daniel Kennell of Gallup, N.M., and Melinda Burgess of Walla Walla, Wash.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Louise Kennell, and his three sisters, Marcette Treichler, Darlene Baker and Shirley Crouse. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, 208 Baltimore St., Gettysburg, with his pastor, the Rev. David Wright, officiating. A private interment for the family will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. The Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
