Clarence E. Long

MCSHERRYSTOWN Clarence E. "Barney" Long, 89, entered into God's eternal care Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford. He was the husband of 63 years to Monica L. (Orndorff) Long. Born March 17, 1924, in McSherrystown, he was the son of Ralph and Clara (Oaster) Long. Barney worked for 25 years at the John Hemler Auto Body Shop and retired from CW Test after 25 years of service. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown, where he served for many years as an usher. Barney was a life member of McSherrystown Home Assoc., McSherrystown Knights of Columbus and SAVES. He was a life member and charter member of McSherrystown Fish & Game Assoc., where he was a hunter and trapper education instructor for 35 years. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children: Teresa M. Miller and her husband Francis of Gettysburg, James P. Long and his wife Jane of New Chester, Anthony T. Long and his wife Dolores of Abbottstown, and John A. Long and his wife Rosemary of Frederick, Md.; eight grandchildren: Ryan Miller, Amanda Koenig, Jeremy, Erik, Emily, Abbie, Lauren and Lindsey Long; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Raymond and Cyril Long, Helena Shrader and Catherine Gouker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at Annunciation Church in McSherrystown, with Rev. Lawrence W. Sherdel officiating. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown. Friends and relatives will be received Sunday 3 to 5 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Contributions in remembrance of Barney may be made to the Annunciation Church Memorial Fund, 26 North Third Street, McSherrystown, PA 17344.
