George J. Davies

HANOVER George John Davies, 83, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at Transitions Healthcare Nursing Home in Gettysburg. He was the husband of Muriel Asplen Davies, his wife of 60 years. Born February 16, 1930, in Sea Cliff, N.Y., he was the son of the late Mary Ann and George Talbott Davies. Mr. Davies served in the U.S. Marine Corp between 1947 and 1953, being one of a squad of 13 U.S. Marines sent to Jerusalem to guard the American Embassy. He also served one year in Korea. George worked for the now defunct Thompson Wire Co., Sparrows Point, Md. for 10 years and retired from Verizon in Baltimore, after 20 years. Mr. Davies was Commander of the American Legion Post 116, Reisterstown, Md., for two years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter Kellie Doherty and husband, Daniel, of Manchester, Md.; grandsons, Sean Doherty and Jack Doherty, of Manchester, Md., and Travis Davies of Reisterstown, Md.; granddaughters, Amanda Davies of Reisterstown, Md., and Sarah Rahim of Baltimore, Md.; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter, Kathleen Hayes; and son, George H. Davies. As per George's request, following cremation there will be a private service at a later date.
