George M. Groft Sr.

GETTYSBURG George M. Groft, Sr., 70, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his beloved family on Monday, June 9, 2014. Born January 30, 1944, in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Francis L. and A. Romaine (McGlaughlin) Groft. George had served Adams County for over 33 years, retiring in April, 2014 as Director of Buildings and Maintenance for the county. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg, American Legion Post #202, VFW Post #15, Gettysburg Moose and Gettysburg Eagles. George enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, riding his motorcycle and most of all, time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Patricia L. (Wagerman) Groft; his five children, George M. "Mike" Groft, Jr. and wife Janet of Abbottstown, Tammy K. Cleveland and husband Todd of Fairfield, Diana M. Groft of Jamestown, N.D., Tina D. Kuhn of Emmitsburg, Md. and Chris A. Groft and wife Angie of Cashtown; six grandchildren, Kristine Heare, Brian Groft, Daniel Gilbert, Zachary Kuhn, Devon Kuhn and Brett Cleveland; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Groft of Hanover, Edward Groft and Timothy Groft, both of Gettysburg; and two sisters, Vicki McMahan of Boiling Springs, and Connie Stonesifer of Gettysburg. George was predeceased by a sister, Debra Yealy. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, with Fr. Bernardo Pistone officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg, with Chris Groft, Mike Groft, Brett Cleveland, Daniel Gilbert, Devon Kuhn and Brian Groft serving as pallbearers.
