John D. Wicke Sr.

NEW OXFORD John D. Wicke, Sr., 75, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at the Village at Laurel Run in Fayetteville. He was the husband of Carolyn J. (Musser) Wicke. John was born September 8, 1937, in St. Cloud, Minn., the son of the late John K. and Evelyn (Scott) Wicke. John was the owner of Wicke Office Machines and was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Oxford, where he served as president and treasurer of church council. He was also a former mayor of New Oxford, served as borough council president, was a past president of the New Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce, past president and treasurer of the Eastern Regional Office Machine Dealers Association, and served on the New Oxford Cemetery Association and the New Oxford Municipal Authority. He also loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his wife, Carolyn, John is survived by a son, John D. Wicke, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy of Hanover; a daughter, Barbara E. Balas and her husband, James of Gettysburg; four grandchildren, Drew Wicke and Logan Wicke, both of Hanover, and Matthew Balas and Elizabeth Balas, both of Gettysburg; a brother, Norman Wicke and his wife, Sachiko of Goose Creek, S.C.; a sister, Ruth Mondloch and her husband, Howard of Daggett, Mich.; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Wicke of Sun City, Ariz. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ann L. Wicke; a granddaughter, Rebecca Balas; and a brother, Kenneth Wicke. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012, at 10 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 Lincolnway East, New Oxford, with his pastor, the Rev. Cynthia A. Chambers, officiating. Burial will be in New Oxford Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
