John R. McWilliams Sr.

HANOVER John R. McWilliams, Sr., 76, passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Donna L. (Sullivan) McWilliams, his wife of 54 years. Born May 3, 1936, in Green Springs, he was a son of the late Raymond E. McWilliams and the late Charles and Viola M. (Laughman) Heldibridle. John was a member of Harvest Time Temple, Hanover. He was employed for more than 25 years with I. Reindollar and Son Construction, York. He was honorably discharged from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard on February 7, 1954. John liked going to the beach in Ocean City, Md. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening. John and his wife, Donna, loved spending time together with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include four children, Penny L. Stauffer and her husband, Larry, John R. McWilliams, Jr. and his wife, Bonita, Mark E. McWilliams and his wife, Laura, and Melanie A. Albright and her husband, Leroy, all of Hanover; nine siblings, Alverta Arthur, Freda Mays, Floyd McWilliams, Keith Heldibridle, and Sandy Laughman, all of Hanover, Emma Little of East Berlin, Richard Heldibridle of Abbottstown, Terry Heldibridle of York New Salem, and Charles Heldibridle, Jr. of California; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sterling and Theodore McWilliams. A service to celebrate the life of John R. McWilliams, Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with the Rev. Fred Mummert officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
