Marian G. Gassman

WESTMINSTER, MD Marian Georgia Gassman, 87, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Westminster. She was the wife of Joseph Porterfield Gassman, who died March 15, 1993. Born on May 17, 1925, in Patapsco, Md., she was the daughter of the late John William and Liza Emma Arnold Flater. She graduated from Westminster High School and worked at Congoleum for 21 months before she was married. She was a member of Patpsco United Methodist Church. Surviving her are daughters and their spouses, Mary-Ellen Barnes of Westminster, Bette and Ty Ford of Baltimore, Md., and Shirley and Bob Leatherman of Westminster; a sister, Adele Gray of Finksburg, Md.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, John A. Flater and Lida Anna Walsh, James Flater, and Ellen Taylor. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Lou Piel officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
