Martin L. Wheeler Jr.

MCSHERRYSTOWN Martin L. "June" Wheeler Jr, 89, passed away Monday, November 26, 2012, at Hanover Hall Nursing Center, Hanover following a short illness. He was the husband of Josephine R. (Giraffa) Wheeler to whom he was married 66 years. Born September 20, 1923, in Harrisonburg, Va., he was the son of the late Martin L. Wheeler Sr. and Alice (Curry) Wheeler. Martin was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, McSherrystown and was the former owner/operator of Martin Wheeler Upholstery. Martin served proudly with the U.S. Army during WWII, receiving the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars. Surviving is a son, Thomas E. Wheeler and his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Patricia Loss and her husband, Michael all of Hanover; four grandchildren; Brian Wheeler, Stacy Crawford, Jill Baughman and Christopher Loss; eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Victoria, Logan, Kyla, Kara, Olivia, Owen and Allyson. He was preceded in death by 11 siblings, Andrew, Russell, Paul, Charles, and Elvert Wheeler, Betty Spangler, Flossie Boyer, Grace Wilt, Oma Southam, Irene Bange and Virginia Bair. A Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with the Rev. Lawrence W. Sherdel officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hanover. Friends and relatives will be received at the funeral home Thursday 1 p.m. to the time of the service.
