Mellie Simpson

NEW OXFORD Mellie Simpson, 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Brethren Home Community. She was the loving wife of the late Richard Simpson. Born January 24, 1924, in Brodbecks, she was a daughter of the late Paul H. and Leisetha (Boehler) Baugher. Mellie was a proud employee of Reberts Retirement Home, Penn Vulcan Heel and also Hanover Shoes. She was a farmer's wife and loved gardening, especially growing her strawberries and flowers. She also enjoyed quilting and cooking, but most of all she cherished the time she spent with her loving family. Mellie is survived by four children, daughter, Dixie Brillhart and her husband, Fred of Hanover; son, Rodney Simpson and his wife, Linda of Spring Grove; son, Gary Simpson and his wife, Rose of Spring Grove; son, Larry Simpson and his wife, Pat of Glenville; a sister, Shirley Kessler and her husband, Harold of Glenville; a brother, Daniel Baugher and his wife, Thelma of Glenville; an aunt, Pauline Snyder of New Oxford; 11 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; with one great-grandchild on the way. In addition to Mellie's husband and parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Moul; and three brothers, Larry, Jacob, and Henry Baugher. A memorial celebration for Mellie will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Bethel UCC, 2112 Yingling Dr., Spring Grove, PA 17362 with Rev. LouAnn Jones officiating. The family invites friends to share memories of Mellie at a gathering with a light dinner immediately after the service at the Bethel UCC Social Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mellie's memory to the Good Samaritan Fund, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350 and to the Bethel Memorial Fund, 2112 Yingling Dr., Spring Grove, PA 17362.
