Nadine M. Wentz

HANOVER Nadine M. Wentz, 91, entered into God's eternal care, Monday, February 25, 2013, at the Gettysburg Lutheran Home. Nadine was the loving wife of the late Gerald M. Wentz for 64 years, until his passing on June 7, 2010. Born January 3, 1922, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Paul F. and Goldie A. (Bechtel) Wentz. Nadine was a life-long member of St. Bartholomew's United Church, ELCA. Nadine's life was spent in West Manheim and Penn Township. She went to Mathias one-room schoolhouse in West Manheim Township which is now under water. Nadine as a teenager went to Hanover and did work in homes as a mother's helper and babysitter until she was old enough to work in factories like Jackson Shoe. By November 1945, Gerald came home from the army and they were married on December 15, 1945. They went to housekeeping on one of the D.E. Wienbrenner Farms. On December 9, 1946, their son Michael Gerald Wentz was born. In 1948 they moved to Penn Township from the farm, where they have resided ever since. Nadine worked for Thelma's Candy Shoppe on Broadway, Hanover, for ten years. She was a sales clerk at the former Staub's Drug Store in Hanover for 30 years, of which she enjoyed every year, until her retirement in 1987. Nadine is survived by her families, Michael Gerald Wentz and his wife Martha Pierce Wentz, from Long Island, New York and their children, Kimberly Wentz Amici and her husband Carl Amici, and their children, Ava, Eliana and Aaron Amici of New Jersey; Michael Paul Wentz and his wife Jennifer Turner Wentz of Long Island, New York; Steven E. Otis and his wife Traci (Buck) Otis and their children, Chelsea and Joshua Otis of Hanover; Shelli R. (Bowman) Groft and Anthony R. Bowman and their family; her late husband's extended family and her friends. She was preceded in death by a sister Janet I. Wentz. A funeral service to celebrate and remember Nadine's life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at St. Bartholomew's United Church, ELCA, 1204 Grand Valley Road, Hanover, with her Pastor the Rev. Steven E. Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the church. Memorial contributions in memory of Nadine may be made to St. Bartholomew's United Church, ELCA, Music Program, 1204 Grand Valley Road, Hanover, PA 17331.
