Thomas T. Markle Sr.

HANOVER Thomas T. Markle, Sr., 95, died Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Homewood at Plum Creek. Born on November 12, 1917, in Hanover, he was a son of the late Calvin E.J. and Clara M. Jacobs Markle, and husband of Thelma Whisler Markle, who died in 2006. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Clifford, and Burnell Markle, and his only sister, Helen Reeder. A 1935 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II. He was employed by George Braun Construction for over 35 years and built many homes in the Hanover area. A member of Grace United Church of Christ, he enjoyed pitching horseshoes. Surviving him are his children, Mary Fowler and her husband, Jerry, and Thomas T. Markle, Jr. and his wife, Judy, all of Hanover, William Markle and his wife, Linda of Gettysburg, and David Markle and his wife, Lori of McSherrystown; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover, with The Rev. Dr. Bruce P. Bouchard officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military graveside rites being rendered by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at viewings from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Corey Markle, Eric Markle, Chad Fowler, Jason Fowler, Jared Markle, Joshua Markle, and Christopher Markle.
