Treva Weikert

GETTYSBURG Treva Keefer Weikert, 83, died Thursday, January 9, 2014 at her home. Born in Gettysburg on January 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus J. and Erma (Slaybaugh) Keefer. Her husband, William A. Weikert, Jr., died November 1, 1986. Treva was a life member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg and a 1947 graduate of Gettysburg High School. Her memberships included the Gettysburg Hospital Auxiliary, USS Gettysburg Society, Lutheran Home Auxiliary, Oakside Park and the USS Naval Memorial Plank Owner in Washington, D.C. Treva had been employed by the former Peace Light Inn and later managed the Prince of Peace Museum in Gettysburg for 16 years. She also had worked for the Gettysburg Tour Center and the Volunteer Center in Gettysburg. Treva was a former member of AARP #1776, National AARP, VFW Post #15 Auxiliary, American Legion Post #202 Auxiliary, Lady Eagles #1562 of Gettysburg, Women of The Moose #982, Gettysburg-Adams Chamber of Commerce, Gettysburg Travel Council, Soroptimist International, and served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. Survivors include her son, William A. Wekert, III of Avon, Conn.; daughters, Lucinda W. Molloy of Gettysburg, and Melinda Weikert-Kauffman of Thomasville; a brother, Earl Keefer of Chambersburg; five granddaughters, Erica Kendall, Jessica Redding, Courtney Kauffman, Margeaux Ivins and Kelly Weikert; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Katie Kendall; and a number of nieces and nephews. Treva was predeceased by her sister, Janet E. Miller, and a brother, Clyde Keefer. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. from St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, with her Pastor, the Rev. Michael Allwein officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. Serving as pallbearers will be Don Koontz, Gary Kauffman, John Shaffer, Stephen Bucher, Steven Bucher and Neil Redding. A viewing will be held on Monday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. The family suggests memorials to St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York St., Gettysburg, PA 17325; or the Adams County Public Library, 140 Baltimore St., Gettysburg, PA l7325.
