Betty E. King Obituary
NEW OXFORD Betty E. King, 85, who resided with her daughter in New Oxford, and formerly of Hanover, entered into God's eternal care, Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Brethren Home Nursing Center. Born May 12, 1928, in Littlestown, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Gladys E. (Sadler) Sponseller. Betty was the loving wife of the late Francis E. Altland, Sr. who died in 1973, and the late J.B. King who died in 1983. Betty was a 1947 graduate of Eichelberger Senior High School. She was employed at Snyder's and later Utz Quality Foods, and part-time at the Evening Sun and SmithKline Beecham. Betty was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Hanover, where she was active in the Christian Women's Club, Bible Study, and did church visitations for 33 years. She enjoyed putting large puzzles together and spending time with her family and friends. Betty is survived by four children, Joseph L. Altland of Fla., Angelina R. Kroft of Abbottstown, Georgetta M. Starner of New Oxford, and Robin A. Stump of New Oxford; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Francis E. Altland, Jr., and one sister, Anna H. Billet. A funeral service to celebrate and remember Betty's life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Calvary Bible Church, 603 Wilson Avenue, Hanover, with the Rev. Michael Osladil officiating. A viewing will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at the church. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, at Marburg Memorial Gardens, 2510 Grandview Road, Hanover, with the Rev. Garry Wilt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Betty may be made to Calvary Bible Church, 603 Wilson Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331; or the Brethren Home at Cross Keys Village, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350.
