NEW OXFORD Burnell E. Wildasin, 97, of the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, and formerly of Hanover, passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at the home. He was the husband of Vivian K. (Estep) Wildasin who died June 23, 2000. Born September 15, 1915, in Hanover, he was a son of the late Harry and Emma (Bechtel) Wildasin. Burnell was owner operator of Wildasin Bros. Trucking for 40 years. He then worked with his son Donald at Wildasin Auto Sales, Hanover for 12 years prior to his retirement. Mr. Wildasin was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Staff Sgt. during WWII in the 345th Harbor Craft Div. in the European Theatre. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Oxford. Other memberships include the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, Hanover, the McSherrystown Home Assn., and the New Oxford Social Club. Mr. Wildasin is survived by four children, B. Ray Wildasin and his wife Shelby, Hanover, Donald L. Wildasin and his wife Patricia, Hanover, Joan E. Lawrence and her husband Terry, Hanover and Judy A. Brown and her husband James, China Grove, N.C.; a sister, Mary Jane LeGore, Hanover; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Wildasin. A service to celebrate the life of Burnell Wildasin will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover with the Rev. Dr. Jerry R. Smith officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover where full military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
