GETTYSBURG Darlene B. Dayhoff, 85, died Saturday afternoon, February 9, 2013, at Genesis Health Care Gettysburg Center. Born January 17, 1928, in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Ellis L. Smith, Sr. and Grace M. (Hankey) Hess, as well as her step-father, Joseph A. Hess. She was the wife of Robert L. Dayhoff, Sr., of Gettysburg to whom she was married to for 64 years. Mrs. Dayhoff was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Littlestown where she was active in the St. Luke Lady's Aid Society. She also volunteered as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. In addition to her husband Darlene is survived by her six children, Deb Lautenslager and her husband Mike, of Chambersburg, Robert J. Dayhoff, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Joyce Ryman and her husband Dave, Michael D. Dayhoff and his wife Kathy, Samuel L. Day and his wife Brenda, and Dee Dee Becker, all of Gettysburg; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Dylan Westbrook and her brother, Ellis L. Smith, Jr. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Whitehall Rd., Littlestown, with Rev. John Largen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, as well as from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday morning at the church.
