NEW OXFORD George C. "Butch" Hoover, 77, entered into God's eternal care Friday, June 14, 2013, at home with his loving family by his side. He was the loving husband of Beverly Ann (Kress) Hoover, to whom he was married 51 years. Born November 25, 1935, in Hanover, George was the son of the late Grover C. and Minnie R. (Becker) Hoover. George was a veteran of the United States Army, having proudly served his country from 1958-1962. He earned the rank of Specialist 4th Class and also received the Good Conduct Medal. George retired in 1995 from Caterpillar Tractor of York, after 30 years of service. George was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, where he was an active member of the Church Choir, the Hanover Community Singers, and St. Matthew's softball team. George was also a member of the NRA, the Green Springs Gun Club, the York Motorcycle Club, the UAW, the American Motor Cycle Association, and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. George loved hunting, riding his motorcycle, singing with his church choir and the Hanover Community Singers, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his loving wife, Beverly, George is survived by three children, Laurie A. Hoover of Dillsburg, Sherry H. Grenzberg and her husband, Christopher of Mt. Top, and Scott A. Hoover and his wife, Tammy of Spring Grove; five grandchildren, Cody S. Hoover, Jared R. Goulden, Adam M. Goulden, Kara E. Grenzberg, and Kurt E. Grenzberg; a brother, Glenn H. Hoover of Hanover; and a stepgrandson, Zach Snyder. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah. E. Goulden; two brothers, Lewis H. Hoover and Bernard Hoover; and two sisters, Pearl (Hoover) Klunk and Mary (Hoover) Nace. Funeral Services to celebrate and remember George will be held 1 p.m. Friday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, as well as from 12:30 to 1 p.m., Friday at the church. Serving as Pallbearers will be Dean Nace, J. Richard King, R. Thomas Sager, Fred Gross, Larry Hoover, and Barry Barshinger. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George's memory to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church Organ Renovation Fund, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, PA 17331.
