SPRING GROVE Harold D. Hankey, 81, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Hanover Hospital. He was the loving husband of Dolores M. (Yarnell) Hankey, who passed away in 2010. Hal was born in Gettysburg, on August 26, 1931, and was the son of the late Mary C. (Grimes) Hankey and Richard E. Hankey. He graduated from Gettysburg High School class of 1949, where he played football, basketball, and track and field. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force in the Communications Dept. during the Korean War. After being discharged he met his wife, Dolores. They married in 1951 and shared 58 years of marriage. He worked at Standard Register Co. for over 25 years before starting his own business, Yorktowne Business Forms, which is now owned and operated by his daughter, Cynthia. He was a published author, having written three books, as well as being an avid poker player and Steelers fan. Hal was a vibrant person who had a personality that drew people to him. He was loved by his customers and colleagues and anyone that knew him. He is survived by his son, Richard M. Hankey and his wife, Stacia of Hanover; his daughters, Cynthia David and her husband, Gilbert of York, and Christina Falls and her husband, George of Abbottstown. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Richard Jr., Daniel, Jason, and Nicole; and his great-grandchildren, Skyler, Bella, and Liam; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, with Vaughn Crago officiating. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
