HANOVER James R. Sennett, 70, entered into God's eternal care, Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at the Hershey Medical Center. Born May 21, 1942, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Sennett and Mabel (Callary) Schmidt. He was the loving husband of Margaret C. "Peg" (Hube) Sennett with whom he shared fifty years of marriage. He served his country proudly in the United States Army from February 15, 1960 until his honorable discharge, February 14, 1963. Jim was employed as a service and sales representative for Rental Uniform service of Hanover from 1973 until his retirement in 1999. Prior to that he was a police officer with the Hanover Police Department. Jim was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, York Street, Hanover as well as the Fraternal Order of Police and the Mason Dixon Chapter #441 STAR Touring and Riding Club. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was an active HO Railroad hobbyist. He was an active supporter of Rotary International, providing assistance with local functions as well as participating in medical missions. He was elected and served on the Hanover Borough Council from 1988 to 1998 and was also an active board member of the Hanover Historical Society as well as serving on the photo committee. He enjoyed collecting cowboy memorabilia, golfing and traveling with his wife, Peg. In addition to his wife, Peg, Jim is survived by his son, Jeffrey Sennett of Bangor, ME, his daughter, Michele Witman and her husband Tom of New Oxford, seven grandchildren, Sarah Simpson, Zachary Sennett, Kevin Sennett, Makayla Sennett, Maxwell Sennett, Samantha Witman, Christopher Witman, four great grandchildren, Hope, Alice, Fletcher, Madysen, his brother, Dale Sennett and his wife Betsy and his sister Judy Miller and her husband Ken. Following cremation, a memorial service to remember James will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 York St., Hanover, with Rev. Tina Minnich officiating. A Visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, 269 Frederick St., Hanover, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family with full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 York St., Hanover, PA 17331; or to the Nursing Gift Fund in HVICU at Penn State Nursing Fund, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033; or the Penn Township Volunteer Emergency Services, 204 Clover Lane, Hanover, PA 17331.
