ABBOTTSTOWN Jean Isabel Smith, 87, formerly of York, entered into God's eternal care Friday, July 5, 2013, at her home. Jean was the loving wife of Howard Curtis Smith, to whom she was married for 43 years. Born February 5, 1926, in Union Bridge, Md.,, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Andrew and Gertrude Virginia (Stover) Eckard Lawson. Jean was a member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church in York. She retired from Colonial Half-Way House in York after many years as a bookkeeper. In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by two children, Linda K. Ecker of Columbus, Ohio, and William C. Ecker, Jr. and wife, Debra of Abbottstown; three grandsons; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Brenda Cowell of Ohio and Joanne McKonley of Hanover. She was preceded in death by one son, Frederick W. Ecker, and one sister, Marion Miller. A service to celebrate and remember Jean's life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, 408 W. Market St., York, with her pastor, the Rev. Judith A. McKee, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
