JEFFERSON Kenneth E. Murphy, 93, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Cross Keys Village at the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford. He was the loving husband of Pearl R. (Wertz) Murphy, who passed away in 2011. Ken was born in Chanceford Twp., York County, on April 22, 1919, and was the son of the late Robert E. Murphy and Mary M. (Warner) Murphy. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper during WWII. He worked as a hydraulic and auto mechanic for Carl Beasley Ford in the 1950's and for Pitman Manufacturing Co. in York. He was a former member of Western York Democratic Club, Jefferson AARP, Jefferson Volunteer Fire Co., Jefferson Baseball Assoc., York Moose Lodge #148, Spring Grove VFW Post 5265, Red Lion American Legion, Jefferson Rifle Club, and a charter member of the Jefferson Brothers of the Brush. He was also a longtime member of Christ United Church of Christ in Jefferson. He is survived by his sons, Barry L. Murphy and wife, Kathy of Spring Grove, and Robert Murphy of York; his two grandsons, Brian Murphy and Brett Murphy; and two great-grandsons, Nathan and Caleb Murphy. He is also survived by his brothers, Dale Murphy of York and Donald Murphy of Red Lion; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Harold Murphy, and his sister, Pauline Trout. A funeral service in celebration and thanksgiving for his life will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC, 175 N Main St., Spring Grove, with the Rev. Barbara J. Brenneman officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service next to his wife at Jefferson Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Christ United Church of Christ, P.O.
