NEW OXFORD N. Wayne Hoover, 73, took the hand of Jesus and walked into Heaven on Saturday, October 13, 2012. He was the loving husband of 51 years to Joan L. (Smeach) Hoover of New Oxford. He was born February 15, 1939, in Hanover, the son of the late Walker and Ruth (Hisey) Hoover. Wayne was a 1957 gradruate of Eichelberger High School, Hanover and served in the Army National Guard. He enlisted in the Army in 1960 serving as a military policeman and was a member of the U.S. Army Air Defense Command pistol team. Wayne worked for 24 years with United Telephone and later owned and operated for 32 years the Corinthian Book & Gift Shop, Hanover. He also served part-time as a police officer with the Hanover Police Department. Wayne attended Freedom Valley Worship Center, Gettysburg, was a member of the NRA, the McSherrystown Rod and Gun Club and the Green Springs Rod and Gun Club. He will be missed by his family and many dear friends. In addition to his wife Joan, Wayne is survived by his daughters, Lori Ann Shields and her husband James of Glenside, Susan Alane Sanders of Hanover and Sarah Lynne Clauss and her husband, Norman of Inverness, Fla.; brother, Eugene "Corky" Hoover of Staunton, Va.; grandchildren, Kara Sheely and her husband Erik of Gettysburg, Stepfanie Renoll and her husband Jeremy of Gettysburg, Samantha Sanders of Abbottstown, Faith, Katie and Jacob Sanders, all of Hanover, Daniel, Kevin and Joseph Shields, all of Glenside, and Ariel and Ashley Clauss, both of Inverness, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Ava Sanders of Hanover; great-grandson, Kellan Renoll who is on the way; and nieces and nephews and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandsons, Alex Clauss and Matthew Sanders. Family and friends are invited to attend a service to celebrate the life of Wayne Hoover on Friday at 6 p.m. at Freedom Valley Worship Center, 3185 York Road, Gettysburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wayne's memory to Freedom Valley Worship Center, 3185 York Road, Gettysburg, PA in care of Joan Hoover to help defray funeral costs.
