HANOVER Omer Hughes Sapp, 90, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Lebanon V.A. Hospital, Lebanon. He was married for 52 years to Maureen B. (Mitchell) Sapp, who passed away on May 20, 2003. Born July 12, 1923, in Vienna, Ga., he was a son of the late Joe O. and Ada (Vinson) Sapp. Mr. Sapp was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving as a Merchant Mariner during WWII. He enjoyed going to the beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C. In his younger years, he loved the time spent camping with his children and grandchildren. Later in life, he became an avid artist, specializing in folk-art. Mr. Sapp is survived by three children, Mitchell Sapp and his wife JoAnne of Tucson, Ariz., Florence Sapp of Pikesville, Md., and Colleen Doty and her husband Walt of Hanover; five grandchildren, Donny Metzger, Amber Kirkpatrick, Craig Fritz, Caroline Sapp and Sean Sapp; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin and Ray Sapp of Dallas, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews in Dublin, Ireland. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Liturgy officiated by Father Stephen Kelley, held at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, on Thursday, November 7, 2013. Immediately following the service, family and friends will meet at 2 p.m. at Druid Ridge Cemetery, 7900 Park Heights Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21208, for final committal service and burial.
