GLENVILLE Sallie Mummert, 82, passed on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the home of her son in Spring Grove. She was the wife of the late John Burgin Byrd and the late Ralph Edward Mummert. Born December 7, 1930 in Mitchell County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late James and Opal Louise (Mosley) Potter. Sallie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. Sallie also was a very good cook and liked sewing and crocheting. She was employed with Paradise School for Boys, Abbottstown for many years prior to retiring. Her survivors include six children, Margaret Bare, York, John David Byrd, Sr., Spring Grove, Barbara Lippy and her husband Dale, Hanover, Gordon E. Byrd, Spring Grove, Richard "Tom" Byrd and his wife Margaret, Spring Grove, and Shirley E. Yost, Glenville; three siblings, Pearl Bosley, Jefferson, Norma Stambaugh, Spring Grove and Jesse "Buddy" Potter, York; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Wilma Young, John Potter and Patricia Wentz. A service to celebrate the life of Sallie Mummert will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Chaplain Jennifer Bradshaw officiating. A time to express condolences and share memories with the family will be on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover.
