HANOVER Sterling J. "Jim" Stair, 65, entered into God's eternal care Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Utz Terrace Nursing Center, Hanover. He was the husband of Carole J. (Warehime) Stair for 41 years. Born January 28, 1947, in Hanover, he was the son of Frances V. (Doll) Stair of Hanover and the late Sterling G. Stair. Jim was a 1966 graduate of Hanover High School and a member of St. David's United Church of Christ, Hanover. He retired from P.H. Gladfelter Paper Co after 38 years of service. Jim was a member of the McSherrystown Home Assoc, McSherrystown Moose, AARP, Hanover Mall Walkers, Hanover and Gettysburg Astronomy group, Golden Visions Senior Center, North Carroll Senior Center and a life member of Pleasant Hill and Penn Twp Fire Companies and served as a former Fire Police Captain. Jim enjoyed traveling with many bus trips and cruises. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two children, Julie Aldridge and her husband, Clarke of Hanover and Scott Stair and his wife, Michelle of York Springs; two granddaughters, Carrie and Addison Stair; three sisters, Brenda Kerchner and her husband, Bill of Hanover, Judy Marsh of McSherrystown and Christine Gladfelter and her husband, Rob of York. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Miller. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at St. David's United Church of Christ, 142 Hobart Rd. Hanover with Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. Relatives and friends will be received Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, PA 17344.
