NEW OXFORD Susanne M. Alwine, 74, entered into God's eternal care following a five year battle with cancer, Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford. Born October 3, 1939 in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine (Long) Gouker. Susanne was the loving wife of Ronald Alwine, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Mrs. Alwine graduated in 1958 from Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown. Susanne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover. She retired from Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 of New Oxford after eight years of service. Prior to this, Susanne was employed by Fromatone Connectors of Hanover for twelve years. In addition to her husband Ronald, Susanne is survived by her son, William Alwine and his wife Lisa of Hanover; her daughters, Cynthia Gilbert and her husband C. James of Littlestown, and Bernadette Spencer and her husband Edward of Littlestown; four grandchildren, Jennifer, William, Sarah and Thomas; and her sister, Carolyn Fanus and her husband Wayne of Hanover. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sheila Grable of Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA, with Msgr. James M. Lyons as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. A Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Jennifer Tolson, William Kelch, Sarah Gilbert, Thomas Canon III, and Dean Tolson. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Susanne may be made to the Brethren Home Community, c/o Benevolence Fund, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350; or to the VNA Hospice of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 N.
