William Eline Obituary

PORTLAND, TX William Anthony "Bill" Eline, 66, formerly of Littlestown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6, in Spohn Shoreline Hospital, Corpus Christi, Texas. He was the husband of Pat (Shirley) Eline. Bill was born to John J. and Susan M. (Keagy) Eline on Oct. 12, 1947, in Gettysburg. He was a 1966 graduate of Delone Catholic High School. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a life member of VFW Post 6954 and the F.O.E. Aerie #2226, both of Littlestown. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by four children, Paul Ruff and wife Lisa of Port Aransas, Texas, Julia Lorenz and husband Todd of Pearland, Texas, Charles Ruff of San Diego, Calif., and Sarah Helen Shirley of San Francisco, Calif.; grandsons, Henry and Beau Lorenz; two sisters, Leitha Houck and Janet McMaster, both of Littlestown; two brothers, James Eline and wife Kathie of Littlestown and Wayne Eline of Bonneauville; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was employed with Production Equipment of Corpus Christi as a long haul truck driver. He was fortunate in having been a truck driver his entire life, including his service time in the military. He thoroughly enjoyed being behind the wheel of his truck and on the road. Bill was also a very good cook and his apple and pumpkin pies will be sorely missed. He brought his version of Pennsylvania Dutch cooking to South Texas and he loved to eat beef enchiladas. Bill modestly called himself a "wood butcher" but all the furniture that he made for friends and family was well made and beautifully crafted heirloom pieces. He could take a simple drawing and turn it into a work of art. He learned this skill from his uncles, Butch and Jim Kuhns of Littlestown. When not in the kitchen, on the road or in his woodshop, Bill could be found watching old western movies or listening to classic country music. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Littlestown, with the Rev. James M. Sterner as Celebrant. Viewing will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Little's Funeral Home, Littlestown. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery. A memorial celebration will also be held on Sunday, March 30, in Corpus Christi for all of his friends in South Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill's name may be made to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center at P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486; or to the charity of one's choice.
