HANOVER Joseph J. "Joe" Olka, 68, passed peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2014, at home with his loving family by his side. He was the loving husband of Kathleen J. (Arnold) Olka for 44 years. Born March 31, 1945, in Jamestown, N.Y., he was a son of the late Howard and Anne M. (Jukes) Olka. Mr. Olka was a member of Hanover Valley Presbyterian Church, Hanover. He was employed with Virginia Power as a Civil Engineer for 20 years. Joe enjoyed square dancing with his wife, Kathy, and was a Past President of the Estelle Springs, Tenn., Square Dance Club. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Hanover Tea Party Patriots. Joe was a Civil War buff and enjoyed his HO model railroad trains. In addition to his wife, Kathy, Joe is survived by four children, Kristine J. Berry and her husband, Clayton of Raleigh, N.C., Darren E. Olka and his wife, Sarah of Harrisonburg, Va., Rebecca A. Olka of Harrisonburg, Va., and Elizabeth R. Tatela and her husband, Joseph of Hanover; two grandchildren, Summerset and Meadow; and four siblings, Maryann Moser and Michael Olka of Titusville, Fla., and William and Christopher Olka of Knoxville, Tenn. A memorial service celebrating the life of Joseph J. Olka will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, February 22, at Hanover Presbyterian Church, 133 Carlisle St., Hanover, with Pastor Drew Derreth officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service at the church. Burial will be private.
