NEW OXFORD Catherine E. (Gallagher) Phillips, 100, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Brethren Home Community. She was the wife of George Reuben Phillips, who died on December 13, 1986. Catherine was born March 27, 1913, in Hanover, the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Grace H. (Wetzel) Gallagher. Catherine was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, retired from Dutch Country Restaurant as a cook, and was an active member of Grangeville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She loved going on bus trips, playing Bingo, and going out to eat with her family and friends. Catherine is survived by a daughter, Jean M. Mummert and her husband, Gary of Hanover; two grandchildren, Michelle Henning and her husband, Todd of Lancaster, and Kimberly Kanig and her husband, Mitch of Jamison, Pa.; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Henning, Courtney Kanig, Brooke Kanig, and Ashlee Kanig; a sister, Ruth Keilholtz of Littlestown; and a brother, Wilbur Gallagher of York. She was predeceased by five brothers, Clarence, John, Paul, Albert, and Benjamin Gallagher; and a sister, Helena Moore. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. from St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser, officiating. Burial will be in the New Oxford Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Good Samaritan Fund of The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350; or to St. Matthew Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 30 W.
