HANOVER Clair B. Markle, 95, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, at Hanover Hall. He was the loving husband of Romaine L. (Masemer) Markle who died July 28, 2005. He was born October 19, 1918, in West Manheim Township, York County, the son of the late Earl and Bertha (Wentz) Markle. Clair served in the U.S. Army and was a highly decorated WWII veteran serving with the 8th Infantry 12th Combat Engineers. He was retired from Rutter's Dairy, York, and was a very special member of the Evangelical Brethren Church, Hanover. He is survived by his son, Clay Markle and wife Lynn, Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Luella Krout, Bonaire, Ga. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014 in St. David's Cemetery, Baltimore Pike, Hanover, with the Rev. Paul Bundy officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover. Full military honors will be conducted by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Contributions in memory of Clair B.
