SPRING GROVE Barbara A. Kerns, 78, entered into God's eternal care Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at the York Hospital. Barbara was the loving wife of Paul E. Kerns, with whom she would have celebrated 61 years in August 2014. Born August 29, 1935, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Faye (Leppo) Neary. Barbara was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover. She was a 1953 graduate of Gettysburg High School. Barbara worked as a supervisor in retail for over 10 years. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and was a special grandmother who loved reading to her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and playing cards. In addition to her husband, Paul, Barbara is survived by seven children, Kathie M. Welsh and Toni L. Kerns, both of Spring Grove, Kim L. Grauel of Aspers, Peggy S. Ruhlman of Gettysburg, Bonnie L. Schuchart of Hanover, William J. Kerns of Spring Grove, and Wendy J. Kessler of Hanover; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two on the way; two brothers, Larry Neary of Hanover and Gary Neary of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one sister, Joan Wisotzkey of Gettysburg. She was preceded in death by one sister, Sonia M. Crawn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, with Msgr. James M. Lyons as celebrant. Viewings and times to share memories with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. Serving as casketbearers will be Jeremy Welsh, Benjamin Schuchart, Keith Kerns, Mark Kerns, Mike Kessler, and John Kessler.
