HANOVER Herbert H. Sterner, 79, passed peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Hanover Hospital. Born June 6, 1935 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Herbert S. and Queba (Arentz) Sterner. Herb was a graduate of Eichelberger High School, class of 1952. He was an auctioneer, a lifelong farmer, and was founder/ owner-operator of a number of businesses including Sterner's Furniture Store, Littlestown, Sunny Crest Stables, Littlestown, and the Haunted Mill, Herby's Teen Club, and The Christmas Spectacular, all in Menges Mills. Herb was fondly referred to as "Mr. Disney" by close family and friends because of his entrepreneurial ideas. He was a former member of the Hanover Jaycees, was a long time member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association, and was an avid hunter. His survivors include his life partner, Judy Phillips of McSherrystown; son, Michael Sterner of York; daughter, Victoria Markle of Hanover; stepsons, Jamie Phillips of Spring Grove and Justin Phillips of Hanover; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Herbert, Timothy, and Andrew Sterner. A service to celebrate the life of Herbert H. Sterner will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 16, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover 17331. Viewings will be on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.
