Franklin Loveland Obituary
III GETTYSBURG Franklin Olds Loveland, III, 72, died on June 28, 2014, at the Gettysburg Center. He was the husband of Christine Loveland, to whom he was married for 44 years. Frank was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 24, 1941, and was the son of the late Franklin Olds Loveland, Jr. and the late Jane Breese Loveland. He was the husband of Christine Loveland, to whom he was married for 44 years. After graduating from Trinity-Pawling School, Frank attended Dartmouth College, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in 1964. He received his Master's Degree from Lehigh University and his Ph.D. from Duke University. Frank was a faculty member at Gettysburg College from 1972 to 1997, where he taught anthropology. Frank loved to spend time with his family and friends, and he also loved to travel and experience other places and cultures. His other interests included sports (especially the Orioles and Ravens) and collecting antique trains and toys. He was a member of the Train Collectors Association for many years and kept in touch with other collectors all over the country. In addition to his wife, Christine, he is survived by his son, David; his daughter, Elizabeth; his sister, Janet; and his niece Cory Shea. He was preceded in death by his brother, Burtis (Burrie) Loveland. A memorial service will be held at the Monahan Funeral Home, located at 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, on July 17 at 11 a.m. with Louis Hammann officiating.
