Gerald E. Thomas Obituary
SPRING GROVE Gerald E. Thomas, 88, passed away suddenly on July 13, 2014, at Hanover Hospital with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Betty D. (Luckenbaugh) Thomas. Gerald was born in N. Codorus Township on April 4, 1926, and was the son of the late Lestie (Zartman) and Lester J. Thomas. He worked as a carpenter for John Ruby and Del-Wood Kitchens for many years and retired in 1991. He was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lischey's United Church of Christ in Spring Grove and a charter member of Porters Community Fire Company. He enjoyed reading, sitting on his porch and he loved the outdoors, but he cherished the time he spent with his family. In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his daughters, Christine DeGroft and husband Kim of Spring Grove, and Connie Neiderer and husband Michael of Spring Grove; his grandsons, Jason Flynn and wife Breanna , and Matthew Neiderer; his great-grandson, Devyn Flynn; his step-grandchildren, Michael Neiderer, Jr.and wife Sue, and Jeanette Staub and husband Matt; five step-great-grandchildren, Jacob, Chance and Alex Neiderer and Brady and Kyle Staub; and his step-great-great-granddaughter, Morgan Neiderer. He was predeceased by his brother, George Thomas, Sr.; and his grandson, Zachary Neiderer. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lischey's U.C.C., 5671 Lischey's Church Road, Spring Grove, with the Rev. Sarah Rentzel-Jones officiating. Interment will be held privately by the family in the church cemetery. Viewings will be held on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Peter Lischey's Church Building for Service Fund, 5671 Lischey's Church Road, Spring Grove, PA 17362.
