MCSHERRYSTOWN Herbert E. Blizzard, 80, formerly of Taneytown, Md., died Sunday, August 3, 2014, at his residence. Born August 9, 1933, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Florence M. Winters Blizzard. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel L. Groft Blizzard. He would have celebrated his 81st birthday on Saturday, August 9, 2014, and his 63rd wedding anniversary on Monday, August 11, 2014. Before retiring he worked 30 years for Black and Decker. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed vacationing in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., decorating with his wife for Christmas and country shows. He was an avid bowler and loved Babe Ruth. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children and spouses John and Brenda J. Vincent of Stafford, Va., Ronnie and Becky S. Crumbacker of Westminster, James T. Blizzard of Littlestown, Robert E. and Doreen Blizzard of Taneytown, Md., and Larry and Cathy L. Naill of Taneytown, a sister Beatrice "Jackie" Donnelly of Hampstead. Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons, David Lee Blizzard and Herbert E. Blizzard, Jr.; brothers, Charles M. and Richard M. Blizzard; and grandson, James T. Blizzard, Jr. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Cantville officiating. Interment will follow in Westminster Cemetery.
