HANOVER Constance L. "Connie" Sterner, 79, passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Homewood at Plum Creek. Born April 5, 1935, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late James Glaze and Marie R. (Garrett) Rinker. Connie owned and operated a dairy farm for 16 years. She then began raising horses and enjoyed showing horses at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg. Her pride and joy was her Tennessee Walker "Sure to Go". Connie also worked for 19 years at Doubleday and for 12 years at Homewood before retiring. Connie is survived by her daughters, Victoria "Vicki" Markle of Hanover and Peg Mickley of East Berlin; her son, Michael H. Sterner of York; her sister, Nancy Ann Shultz of Hanover; her brother, James D. Rinker of Cairo, Ga.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by three sons, Timothy A. Sterner, Herbert J. Sterner, and Andrew G. Sterner; and her sister, Rebecca V. Mathes. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Connie Sterner will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with the Rev. David DeLong officiating. A time to share memories with the family will be on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Final committal will be private at a later date.
