HANOVER Thomas B. Neiderer, Sr. 88, passed peacefully on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Helen E. (Lawrence) Neiderer and together they celebrated 68 years of marriage on August 17, 2014. He was born November 10, 1925, in McSherrystown the son of the late Gregory John and Regina (Hagerman) Neiderer. Mr. Neiderer faithfully served in the Marines and Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart Medal and a Presidential Citation. A highly skilled mason, he retired from Neiderer Masonry after 31 years and was later employed with Case Beer Outlet, Hanover, for more than 20 years. Mr. Neiderer was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover, life member of the Hanover AMVETS, and a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association. In addition to his wife, Mr. Neiderer is survived by his son, Thomas B. Neiderer, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Abbottstown; daughter, Kathy M. Kessler and husband, Jim of Hanover; granddaughter, Kara Darlington and husband, Robert of Hanover; grandson, James Lee Kessler and wife, Julee of Hanover; and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Owen, and Adam Darlington, and Lainey and Brody Kessler, all of Hanover. Mr. Neiderer was preceded in death by his brothers, Leroy, Norbert, Theron, John, and Jules Neiderer; and sisters, Marstella Miller, Pearl McKinney, Gladys Flickinger, and Bertha McKinney. A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 11 a.m. in St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery, corner of Blettner Ave. and Jefferson St., Hanover. The family will receive friends and share memories on Thursday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover. Full military honors will be conducted by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Neiderer, Jr., Jim Kessler, Lee Kessler, Rob Darlington, Bob Staub, and Joe Bunty. Contributions in memory of Thomas B. Neiderer may be made to VNA Hospice, 440 N.
