III ENOLA Matthew Callen, III, formerly of Hanover, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at his home at the age of 81. Born August 5, 1930, in New York City, he was a son of the late Matthew Callen, Sr. and Josephine (Selba) Callen. Matt was a graduate of William Penn High School, Class of 1949 and Shippensburg College, Class of 1953. While in school, he was on the varsity basketball and track teams, including the state champion relay team at Shippensburg. Matt was a hard worker throughout his life and was the owner and operator of three Goodyear tire stores. Always friendly and personable, he was voted "Class Wolf" of his high school class. Everyone knew Matt as a great guy who loved spending time with friends and family. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing trips and traveled throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Matt was preceded in death by his wife, Etta I. Callen. Surviving are his sons, Michael J. Callen and wife Nancy, Matthew "Cork" Callen, IV, and wife, Suzanne, Christopher P. Callen, and Kevin T. Callen and wife, Buranit; grandchildren, Matthew Callen, V, Shane L. and Jenna L. Callen, and Zoe K. Callen; his great-granddaughter, Lilly Callen; and his sister, Delia J. Lackmeyer. Matt was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick J. Callen. Vigil services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg. Burial will take place in Paxtang Cemetery following the services. There will be viewings at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, as well as, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
