SHREWSBURY Phyllis E. Hughes, 76, passed on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Barbara J. Egan Nursing Home in Shrewsbury. She was the widow of Jeff Hughes, with whom she shared 41 years of marriage. Born on October 2, 1935, in Abbottstown, she grew up in Hanover. She was the daughter of the late Naomi (Benedict) and Calvin Kitzmiller. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gary (Chubb) Kitzmiller, and has a surviving brother, Donald Kitzmiller, living in Spring Grove. She attended Seven Valleys Baptist Church, Seven Valleys, and Bible Baptist Church in Manchester. In addition to raising six children, she worked briefly for Hanover Canning Factory and Feb Plastics in Jacobus. She enjoyed bingo, country music, and was an avid "Elvis" fan. Over the years, she sold and collected Avon products. Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory six children, Shawn Hughes and Jeff Hughes, Jr., both of York, Carter Hughes of Spring Grove, Jody Hughes Bechtold of Manchester, April Giuffrida and husband, James of Sinking Spring, and Kim Hughes Forry and her partner, Jan Scopel of Annapolis, Md.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was fondly known as "Mommy" and "Mammaw" by her family and will be deeply missed. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012, from 11 a.m to 12 noon at the Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., 822 E. Market St., York. The service will begin at 12 noon with Brother Ron Wettstein officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Barbara J.
