GETTYSBURG Rita Jane Hockensmith, 83, entered into God's eternal care with her loving family by her side, Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Gettysburg Hospital. She is now at home with God and her husband, Wilbur "Bud" Hockensmith, who died February 14, 2001. Born April 8, 1923, in McSherrystown, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Gertrude (Cremer) Gouker. Rita was a member of Sacred Heart Basilica in Edgegrove for many years and later became a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Bonneauville. Surviving is a daughter, Judy Keller and her husband Dale of New Oxford; one son, Donald Hockemsmith and his wife Deborah of Hanover; three grandchildren, Scott Keller, Daniel Keller and Daria Hockensmith; 10 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Robert Gouker Sr. of McSherrystown, Rosalia Storm of Bonneauville, Dolores Warner of McSherrystown, and Joan Lawyer of Hanover. She was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Gouker. Jane was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved being together at family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and birthdays. Judy always kept her mother informed and included in all the family functions she could. Judy and her mother were not just mother and daughter, but best friends. As many know, Judy had always taken care of her parents. Jane lived with Dale and Judy before moving to Green Acres, where she enjoyed the people and activities, especially bingo. She considered the staff her friends and was always thankful for all their help. Jane will be greatly missed by her immediate family, faith family and friends. Her smile was contagious and made everyone around her feel welcomed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Annunciation Church in McSherrystown, with the Rev. Lawrence J. McNeil officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Edgegrove. Relatives and friends will be received Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be: Scott Keller, Daniel Keller, Veronica Curry, Samuel Keller, Justin Keller, and Luke Keller.
