HANOVER Charles C. "Charlie" Berkemeier, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Hanover Hall. Born July 14, 1936, in Baltimore, Md., he was the loving son of the late Calvin C. and Clara E. (Thompson) Berkemeier. Charlie was a devoted employee of R.H. Sheppard Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1992. In his spare time Charlie loved to read books and loved working in his flower garden. One of his favorite hobbies included collecting eagle sculptures and replicas that he gathered from around the world. He was a member of the Taneytown Church of the Brethren. Charlie is survived by a sister Shirley Crouse of Taneytown, Md.; two stepbrothers, Richard and Kenneth Reed of Thurmont, Md.; and his best friends, Bob and Betty Wagaman of Hanover, who helped take care of Charlie for many years. A service to celebrate the life of Charlie Berkemeier will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with Pastor Ed Brower officiating. A time to share memories, with family and friends, and an opportunity to view will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
