SPRING GROVE Evelyn R. (Stambaugh) Hoke, 85, passed away on January 5, 2013, at The Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Drive in York. She was the loving wife of Allen H. Hoke; together they shared over 64 years of marriage. Evelyn was born in Spring Grove, on November 26, 1927, the daughter of the late Lucy (Kessler) Stambaugh and the late Lawrence Stambaugh Sr. She worked briefly in her younger years at Hershey's Restaurant and P.H. Glatfelter Co. and was a homemaker most of her life. She was a longtime member of St. Peter Lischey's Church in Spring Grove and enjoyed baking pies but cherished the time she spent with her family. In addition to her husband Allen, she is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hoke of Front Royal Va.; her son, Jerry Hoke and his wife Deborah of Warrenton Va.; her granddaughters, Laura Armstrong and her husband Michael, Sarah Colley and her husband, Nicholas and her great-grandchildren, Ian and Colin Armstrong and Jackson Colley. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Messinger and her husband, Harvey of Spring Grove. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Spurgeon Stambaugh and Lawrence Stambaugh Jr. and her sister, Marion Farrence. A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lischey's Church, 5671 Lischey's Church Rd., Spring Grove with Rev. Dr. Larry Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the service. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
