YORK SPRINGS Frances H. Smith, 83, died Monday afternoon, February 25, 2013, at her home. She was the wife of Irvin L. Smith, Sr., to whom she was married over 66 years. Born June 29, 1928, in Corry, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank C. and Helen F. (Bromley) Burdick. Mrs. Smith, along with her husband, owned and operated an automotive garage and junk dealership. She was a member of the York Springs Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the South Mountain Tractor Association, the Biglerville American Legion, and the Gettysburg VFW. In addition to her husband, Frances is survived by her six children, Judy Baker and her husband, David, Linda Wilson, Susan Gardner and her husband, Benjamin, and Irvin Smith, Jr., all of York Springs, Mike Smith of Biglerville, and Sandra Dee Grimes and her husband, Marlin of New Chester; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Isabelle Swart and her husband, Kenneth, of Corry, Dorothy Scott and her husband, Ernest, Sr. of Girard, and Mary Bowman and her husband, Carl, Sr. of Satsuma, Fla.; one brother, Walter Burdick and his wife, Virginia of Elkins, W.Va.; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Ottomeier, who died October 9, 2001; her grandson, Michael F. Gorman, who died February 18, 1989; two brothers, Lloyd Burdick and Alton H. Burdick, Sr.; as well as her son-in-law, Sterling Wilson. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with the Rev. Kenneth Swick officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Benjamin Gardner, David Baker, Daniel Grimes, Thomas Smith, Gynn Scott, and Mike Arnold. Online condolences may be made at monahanfuneralhome.com
