YORK Sterling S. Crowl, 89, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy. He was the husband of the late Vergie F. (Ambrose) Crowl. Mr. Crowl was born in Hanover, on August 14, 1923, son of the late Roscoe F. and Minnie E. (Markle) Crowl. Sterling served his country honorably In the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific, Saipan and Hawaii. He retired in 1986 after 37 years of servce, as a maintenance supervisor, for the former National Gypsum Co. of York. Memberships include Zion United Methodist Church, Pleasureville American Legion Post 799, and the AARP. He was a former member of the AARP Bowling Group. He attended Lighthouse Baptist Church and the Church of the Open Door Gospel Jamboree. Survivors include, a son, Lance S. Crowl and his wife, Cindy of Columbia; three grandchildren, Gregory J. Music, Lacey A. Crowl, Lindsay M. Crowl, two great-grandchildren, Mary Jane Music and Kyle Music, and a sister, Jean Nobrega of Nevada. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois E. Music. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 5005 Carlisle Rd., Dover. Officiating will be Dr. Sterling W. Walsh, Jr. Viewings will be held Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place Monday, April 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 725 Baltimore St., Hanover with full military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
