HANOVER David S. Raber, 90, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Brethren Home Community. He was the loving husband of Joyce (Hart) Raber for 68 years. Born July 23, 1922, in Hanover, Mr. Raber was the son of the late Paul and Blanche (Shunk) Raber. David was employed with the U.S. Postal Service and served as a mail carrier for 32 years. He was recognized as the "Best Mail Man Ever" at the time of his retirement. David then became a fine furniture refinisher for 30 years in Hanover. He also loved refinishing and restoring antiques. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover and was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during WWII. Mr. Raber really enjoyed fishing especially with his friends. They went fishing together often for many years in Ocean City, Maryland. In addition to his wife Joyce, he is survived by two children; Gary Raber and his wife Debbie, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Suzanne Small, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Zachary Small, Hanover and Amelia (Small) Mayernik and her husband Wesley, West Palm Beach, Fla.; and a sister, Peggy Keller, New Oxford. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. A memorial service to celebrate the life of David S. Raber will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with Pastor Jack Hoffman officiating. A time to express condolences and to share memories with the family will be Wednesday, from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
