PLEASANT VALLEY, MD Carolyn Gertrude "Mom" Smith, 95, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Lorien of Taneytown, Md. Born October 25, 1917, in Pleasant Valley, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Ethel Myers Black. She was the wife of Scott Lambert Smith who predeceased her in 2007. She had previously worked and retired from Carroll Manufacturing where she was a presser. She was a member of St. Matthews United Church of Christ, participating in the Willing Workers Class. She was the last surviving charter member of the Pleasant Valley and Community Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and camping. She was also a member of the Door to Virtue Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Carolyn Smith and Robert and Gail Smith all of Westminster; brother, Charles Black of Westminster; granddaughter Kara Garrison; grandsons, Scott, Matthew, Michael, and Jason Smith; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 21 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Hanberry officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
