HANOVER Richard J. Bair, 85, entered God's eternal care on Monday, September 23, 2013, at home. He was the loving companion of Arthur B. Veit for 33 years. Born October 21, 1927, in Hanover, he was the son of the late Jesse William and Alma Arline (Bortner) Bair. Richard was a kind and loving man who loved being with his family and educating children. He was a teacher for many years and retired as the principal for Manheim and West Manheim Elementary Schools. Richard enjoyed going to Broadway shows, the opera, classical music, and tending to his garden. In addition to Richard's companion, he is survived by a niece, Carol Zutell of Seven Valleys; a nephew, Richard Emmert of McSherrystown; great-niece, Jessica Zutell-Berger and her husband, Brent of Hanover; and great-nephew, Andrew Zutell of Seven Valleys. In addition to Mr. Bair's parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Emmert. A service to celebrate the life of Richard will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with the Rev. Kathryn A. Schroeder officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, where full military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
