Irene Fink Obituary
HANOVER Irene Fink, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior and her husband on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Born June 9, 1926, in Doncaster, England, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Annie (Taylor) Hughes. Irene was a loving World War II bride and devoted wife of Charles D. Fink, who died in 1985. Irene was a 62 year member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Hanover, where she served as custodian of the church. During this time, Mrs. Fink also served as a Sunday School teacher, a choir member, and an altar guild member, as well as being active in various church activities. She was also a member of the Hanover Community Singers. Irene donated her time and served as the manager of the Hanover Clothing Bank for several years. Mrs. Fink was a member of the Hanover Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, #763, Hanover. Other memberships include the Hanover Cosmopolitan Club and the National Guard Wives. Irene was a student and teacher of the Pearl McGowen rug hooking school. She held classes in her studio with students from Hanover, York, and Lancaster. She enjoyed instructing others and sharing her love of rug hooking over the years. Mrs. Fink is survived by her daughter, Deborah A. Shanbarger and her husband, William of Hanover; her son, David C. Fink and his wife, Kim of Hanover; six grandchildren, Jennifer L. (Shanbarger) Myers and her husband, Brett, Jonathan Paul Shanbarger and his wife, Andrea, Michael D. Fink, Tiffany L. Shetter and her husband, James, Luke T. Austin, and Summer G. Austin; and eight great-grandchildren, Liam Quinn Myers, Owen Cole Myers, Addison Grace Myers, Rylan Grey Myers, Marcellus Shetter, Reese Shetter, Kane Shetter, and Aubree Austin. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Lee Fink; grandson, Matthew B. Austin; her brothers, Chuck Hughes and Albert Hughes; and her sisters, Iris Harris, June Hodges, and Ivy Hern. Funeral services will held 11 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2014, at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 124 Broadway, Hanover, with the Rev. Earl Marks officiating. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Irene's name to Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 124 Broadway, Hanover, PA 17331.
