HANOVER Robert S. Slothour, 81, entered into God's Love on August 16, 2014, at Hanover Hall in Hanover. He was the loving husband of Betty Jane (Smith) Slothour; together they shared over 63 years of marriage. Robert was born in New Oxford on November 24, 1932, and was the son of the late Guy S. and Clara V. (Hoffman) Slothour. He proudly served his country in the Company E 104th Pennsylvania National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked for R.H. Crawford in Hanover for many years prior to retiring and was a longtime member of Hanover Church of the Brethren, where he served on the choir. He also served as President of the Hanover Fire Dept. #2. He was a member of the Hanover Elks Lodge where he served in the Color Guard in the Veterans Day parade. He was also a member of Hanover American Legion and the Antique Automobile Club in the Gettysburg Region. In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his daughter, Elaine Scrobe and husband Daniel of Virginia; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Sloat and Shirley Topper. He was predeceased by his son, David Slothour in 2003; and his daughter, Ellen Siska in 2012. Following cremation, a memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Hanover Church of the Brethren, 601 Wilson Avenue, Hanover, with the Rev. Geraldine Godfrey officiating. Interment will be held privately at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover. Family services are under the direction of Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Spring Grove. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hanover Church of the Brethren. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Hanover Hall for their excellent care and support over the last few years.
